שִׁחְיָא, שִׁי׳ch. sam(שחי, שיחי arm-pit), 1) bending, bowing the head. Bets.24a כל … ומטי לה בחד ש׳ (Ar. שהיא) when one running after an animal gets it with one bend (the space being too small to allow an escape). Gitt.70b (ref. to Mish. ib. VII. 1 והרכין) ודילמא ש׳ דלאו לאו נקטיה maybe he was seized by spasms, making him bend his head in the way of one indicating dissent; ש׳ דהן הן making him bend in the way of one bowing the head in assent. Ib. ש׳ דסירוגין alternate spasms of the head accidentally corresponding to assent and dissent respectively. 2) arm-pit. Targ. Y. Deut. 22:5 (ed.
